Taking advantage of the focus on Williams, Texas quarterback Major Applewhite scored twice with touchdown passes to Wane McGarity. Then, in the second, the Heisman Trophy winner exploded. Ricky Williams' stats for that day were staggering with 203 yards on 30 attempts and two touchdowns—the third best day on record.
