Product Information

by Good Sports Art

The date: October 13, 1960. The place: Forbes Field, Pittsburgh. It's Game 7 of the World Series, and that's journeyman catcher Hal Smith unloading on Yankee pitcher Jim Coates for a 3-run, 8th-inning homer to cap a 5-run rally and give the Pirates a 9-7 lead.

Product Features

Everyone recalls Bill Mazeroski's Series-winning clout in the bottom of the ninth, but if it hadn't been for the Bucs' rally and Smith's shot in the eighth, who knows what might have happened. Smith had entered the game in the top of the eighth as a replacement for Smoky Burgess. Smith's homer drove in Dick Groat from third and 26-year old Roberto Clemente from first.
